NewsHound is an Outlook add-in and MAPI service provider
that adds full newsgroup (NNTP) support into Outlook. Some of the features NewsHound provides are:
-
Full support for downloading headers. You may choose
to download headers, mark them manually and then
have NewsHound retrieve the full articles. Or, you
can have NewsHound download the full article
automatically, "on-the-fly", whenever you view a
header*. Headers mode is configurable on an
individual newsgroup basis, so you can download
headers in some groups, and full articles in others.
For those of you who may have tried one of the other
NNTP add-ins, please note that NewsHound does
not place all newsgroup headers in the
Inbox. Headers go in their respective newsgroup
folders, just like you would expect them to.
-
Multi-threaded article retrieval - If you have
multiple newsgroup servers set up, NewsHound will
create multiple connections and download articles
(or headers) from each server simultaneously,
resulting in faster retrieval times if you subscribe
to newsgroups on two or more servers
-
Article retrieval speed has been significantly
improved over the 1.x versions, particularly in
newsgroup folders that contain a large number of
articles
-
Secure, encrypted connections to newsgroup servers,
using the SSL 3.0, SSL 2.0 or TLS 1.0 protocols
-
Newsgroup articles can be colorized, to make them
easier to read (similar to Google's Groups Search).
