Newsgroup Article Colorizing
"Quoting"... some people love it, some hate it. Used judiciously, it can provide valuable context to a reply. Misused, it can make your eyes bleed.  Even when used in moderation, quoting can still make newsgroup articles difficult to read. NewsHound enhances your newsgroup reading experience by applying colors and other visual enhancements to newsgroup articles.

Compare the following newsgroup article, in a single color and typeface:

and the same article that has been colorized by NewsHound:

By applying different colors to the quoted text, it is much easier to distinguish between new content and quoted content. The use of italics gives an added visual distinction. In addition, this sample uses the Verdana font, which is easier on the eyes than a monospaced Serif font like Courier.

Note that the signature line is also displayed in a different color. While this particular signature is short and pleasant, long and obnoxious signature lines are not uncommon in newsgroup articles. By displaying signatures in a muted color, they can be less distracting. You could also hide signature lines completely, by setting the foreground and background colors the same.

NewsHound also provides an alternate way of displaying quotes. Instead of the traditional ">" character, NewsHound can display a vertical bar in front of quoted text:

NewsHound allows you to configure the colors, fonts and other items, as shown in the following screen shot of the configuration dialog. You can change these settings at any time, and view the results immediately.

Newsgroup article colorization is the first of many enhancements we have planned for NewsHound in the coming months. Most, if not all of these enhancements will be free to registered users.
